Donation Drive Fuels Academic Success

The four million members of Boys and Girls Clubs across the country will receive much-needed school supplies this autumn thanks to a donation drive with Regal Entertainment Group.  The “Won’t Back Down” School Supply Drive is being held now through October 4 to benefit the approximately 4,000 clubs nationwide.  School supplies of every kind are welcome.  Donations can be brought to Regal Cinemas Ithaca Mall Stadium 14 at The Shops at Ithaca Mall, or other local Regal Cinemas theaters.  Those interested in donating can call (607)266-7964 or email Emily Richards at theatre667@regalcinemas.com to learn more.

Boys and Girls Clubs offer fun, safety, and learning in matters like career development, character, life skills, arts, fitness, and even sustainable community gardening.  Boys and Girls clubs also offer resources to parents on issues like bullying and homework. 

Some Clubs are open to children and teens from 2-9 pm during school days, which adds up to 140 hours per month that school supplies are used.  More than 30% of kids won’t graduate from high school, but a Harris survey reported that 90% of Club alumni earned a high school diploma or equivalent. The Donation Drive is in celebration of the Fox-Walden Media film “Won’t Back Down” opening in Regal Cinemas theaters nationwide on Friday, September 28.  “Won’t Back Down” is about two mothers who battle apathy and bureaucracy to save their children’s inner-city school.  Regal Cinemas is a partner of the Boys and Girls Club of America, providing grants to local Clubs for free summer matinee showings of family movies.
