Health Experts Promote Wellness

On Saturday, July 21 from Noon-4 PM, the sixth annual Health and Wellness Fair, presented by Cayuga Medical Center, will be held at The Shops at Ithaca Mall.  This event is free and open to the public, featuring organizations like the American Red Cross, the Alcohol and Drug Council and the Finger Lakes Eye and Tissue Bank.

The first 300 event attendees can enjoy free gift bags, and all can enter the free raffle.  The Cancer Resource Center and Fidelis Care New York will help people learn how they can improve wellness.  The American Red Cross will host a blood drive during the Fair, and all donors will receive a coupon for a free carton of Friendly’s Ice Cream.  

Cayuga Medical Center will provide educational displays from Imaging Services, Cancer Services, the Cayuga Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, and the Cayuga Center for Healthy Living.  Cayuga Medical Center was recently named the safest hospital in New York State by Consumer Reports.  Consumer Reports scores hospitals on safety, patient outcomes, patient experiences and hospital practices based on issues like communication, scan use, infections and readmission.    

Also participating in the Fair will be puppies and puppy raisers from Finger Lakes Region of Guiding Eyes for the Blind.  This is their first year at the Fair, providing the public with a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about raising guide dogs, and how and whom guide dogs can benefit.  “Guiding Eyes for the Blind provides well-bred and trained guides for people who are blind and visually impaired,” says Jean Snow of Guiding Eyes for the Blind.  “The dogs give their owners freedom and confidence.  We are really proud of our pups and their ability to make a difference for the blind and visually impaired.”
