Local Expo Has Tails Wagging
Pets and their families are invited to a day of fun, learning and socialization. The 2012 Spring Pet Expo will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 11 AM-3 PM. During this free, public event, pet owners are invited to bring their well-behaved pets with them to the mall to see the many local pet & animal related businesses and organizations attending.
There will be opportunities to learn about local pet services, unique goods on display, and interactive demonstrations every half hour from participating organizations. Complimentary gift bags will be available to Pet Expo attendees, who can sign up for a free raffle to win prizes provided by participating businesses.
Dan the Snakeman’s Educational Show will feature reptiles like alligators and pythons. People will be able to view and touch the animals. He will teach which exotic animals make good pets, and about the environmental importance of exotic animals in the wild.
Some of the other businesses demonstrating their services will include Colonial Veterinary Hospital, the Cornell University Police K-9 Unit, Gorges Greyhounds, Long Island Bulldog Rescue and the Ithaca Dog Training Club.
Expo activities will include Positive Reinforcement Dog Training Technique demonstrations hosted by the International Longhaired Whippet Club and The 4-H Junior Tailwaggers Club. Also, a Do-It-Yourself Pet Photography demonstration will be hosted by The Country Studio of Photography. The Tompkins County SPCA will host the Meet Your Match program, featuring their adoptable animals.
All pets brought to the Pet Expo must be well-behaved domestic animals, either in pet carriers or on non-retractable leashes not exceeding 6 feet long, and must be supervised by their owners at all times. During the event, pets are allowed in the common areas of The Shops at Ithaca Mall, excepting the Food Court. Pets may be allowed in some stores, at the stores’ individual discretion.
