Pets Welcomed In Mall During Fun Day
Pets and their families are invited to The Shops at Ithaca Mall for fun, prizes and learning at the 2012 Autumn Pet Expo and Howl-o-ween Costume Contest held on Saturday, October 20. During this free, public event from 11 AM-3 PM, pets and their families will be able to meet others in the common areas of the Mall except the Food Court. Complementary gift bags will be available to Pet Expo attendees, who can sign up for a free raffle to win prizes from participating businesses.
The Howl-o-ween Costume Contest will begin at 1 PM, and check-in for the Contest begins at 11 AM. Expo attendees are invited to dress up their pets and enter them in this free competition to win prizes, provided by Bubbles and Bows. Judging classes include Small Dogs, Medium/Large Dogs, and Other Animals, and prizes will be awarded for Cutest, Scariest, Funniest and Best Overall Costumes. Interested pet owners can visit www.theshopsatithacamall.com for free contest registration.
Other activities will include the Dog Agility Course demonstrations by the 4-H Junior Tailwaggers Club. Dan the Snakeman’s Educational Show will return to the Mall, featuring reptiles like alligators and pythons. Also available will be a free opportunity to try the game “Kinectimals,” presented by RadioShack and Gamestop.
Safety information for pets during Halloween will be provided by Colonial Veterinary Hospital, including tips like these:
- Use reflective collars and leashes when outside after dark.
- Make sure costumes do not restrict dogs’ vision.
- Some dogs do not like costumes on themselves, their people or strangers.
- Some dogs may need a quiet room to avoid trick-or-treat strangers.
- Candy is not good for dogs, especially chocolate and sugar-free gum.
All pets brought to the Pet Expo must be well-behaved domestic animals, either in pet carriers or on non-retractable leashes not exceeding 6 feet long, and must be supervised by their owners at all times. During the event, pets may be allowed in some stores, at the stores’ individual discretion. For more information, visit www.theshopsatithacamall.com or call (607)257-5337.
